At Carpets Direct we don’t just do carpets – we have an extensive range of laminate flooring too. It’s come a long way since its introduction in the 1980s, and with a comprehensive selection of realistic finishes, it’s well worth considering for a fresh, clean look for your home.
They say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery and this is especially true of laminate flooring. With a central core of HDF (High Density Fibreboard) and a melamine top ‘wear layer’ with an image of real wood laminated onto it, you get the stylish, contemporary appearance of hardwood, but it’s more resilient, hygienic and family friendly.
In a busy house, flooring has a lot to contend with - laminate stands up to scratches, stains and impacts remarkably well, and doesn’t fade in direct sunlight.
It’s easy to lay too, with installation costs roughly half that of a hardwood floor, and comes in a huge range of natural-looking wood, stone or tile stone effects.
In recent years, with the trend for minimalist décor, wooden flooring has become the rule rather than the exception. However, hardwood floors are a relatively expensive option, so going for laminate, which has the look of wood but is often less than half the price, makes economic sense -and it’s environmentally friendly too.
You might be on a tight budget and want to save some money, but going for cheap laminate flooring isn’t necessarily the most cost-effective option. Some laminate is made using MDF (Medium Density Fibreboard) rather than the much stronger HDF - we’d always advise you to go for the best quality you can afford – it will last longer and save you money in the long run.
Conventional laminate is water resistant to a point so it’s not normally recommended for rooms where there is the possibility of large water spills or leakages. The kitchen and bathroom laminate flooring we supply is totally sealed and waterproof so is completely safe to use in those rooms.
